Biography

Héctor Guerra turns the connection between cumbia and hip hop into a distinctive artistic proposition with a powerful stage presence and international reach. Cumbia Is The New Hip Hop goes beyond the traditional concert format, bringing together music, urban culture and musical roots in a contemporary live show designed to move audiences and get people dancing.

With over fifteen years of international experience, Guerra has developed a distinctive sound that bridges cumbia, roots music and contemporary urban influences. Born in Riotinto, Andalusia (Spain), to a Bolivian father, he began making waves at just 19, when DJ Lord of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill became his mentor and invited him to perform as a support act during Public Enemy’s 2003 tour of Spain.

His career includes four landmark albums: Lágrimas (Warner Music Spain, 2011), Amor (2012), Gracias Por Existir and Desde El Infierno, followed by Perreo Cósmico. His music has received recognition from media outlets such as NPR and Radio 3. His single “WHAT UP?” reached number one on Mexico’s iTunes sales chart, while “Fantazy” was selected by NPR as one of the ten best Latin songs of the year. He has also collaborated with Rubén Albarrán (Café Tacvba), Macaco and Panteón Rococó, and contributed to the Netflix film Mexicanos de Bronce, featuring “Del barrio pa’ Wirikuta” as the main soundtrack theme.

His career has taken him to international stages including Wirikuta Fest in Mexico, where he performed before an audience of more than 60,000; Afro Latino Fest and Sfinks Festival in Belgium; MAD Urban Fest; Etnosur in Spain; and several festivals in Chicago. His work has earned the recognition of influential figures such as DJ Lord, Jota Mayúscula, Sonido La Changa (Don Ramón Rojo) and Alberto Pedraza.

In 2026, Héctor Guerra celebrates his 15th anniversary with an international tour and three new releases: Cumbiando el Mundo, Cumbia Is New Hip Hop and Todos Somos La Fuente, a retrospective compilation accompanied by a book of the same title.

A compelling proposition for global music, urban culture, electronic music and Latin music festivals: a live show that connects generations and territories through the dancefloor, combining authenticity, international experience and a cultural narrative that extends far beyond the stage.
