«Qechua Picks Vol I» navigates a musical odyssey between upbeat tropical vibes and the more intense tones of dembow, catering to both dance floor and headphone listening. This selection features artists that despite being rooted in Latin American culture, reside in various parts of the world, adding a global character to the compilation. The album captures the current pulse of the Latin American club scene, although it doesn’t go for the easy mainstream, but rather through tracks that invite you to immerse yourself in diverse sounds or, where you hear stories, rhythms and particular and unique speeds.

SIDE A

Side A of the vinyl opens with «Abusadora» by Cesar Chunk, a Peruvian artist based mainly in the mysterious city of Prague, who has been involved in producing and promoting the sounds of South American Underground in the Czech Republic. «Abusadora» is a track that sets the tone for an intense and vibrant rhythmic exploration, a collage of feelings and mysterious sounds that Cesar currently calls «Tribal Steps».

It is followed by «Ruptura» by Entrañas, an experimental electronic music producer and DJ from Quito, Ecuador, known for his ability to transform Latin American music and its different rhythms, mixing them with ambient, bass, grime and club. In «Ruptura», Entrañas creates a piece that manifests its identity and Ecuadorian heritage, offering a fresh vision of the sound of these latitudes.

Tribilin Sound, brings his unmistakable touch in «Las Mujeres Que Lo Muevan Así». Since 2006, Tribilin Sound has been fusing cumbia, chicha, afro and other rhythms, respecting and enhancing the Peruvian cultural heritage. Their work connects the old with the new, offering a sound that celebrates Peruvian musical roots and presents them in a global context.

In «Vudushock», Vudufa, a beatmaker and MC from Lima, combines Afro-Peruvian and folkloric rhythms, expanding his musical horizon. Vudufa is inspired by «el Burrofa», a mythical and demonic figure from the folkloric dance «Los Diablicos de Huancabamba» from Piura, and alludes phonetically to voodoo, a fundamental component of African mysticism and culture.

Side A concludes with «Tchongo», a collaboration between Lukrø and Monopolar that masterfully combines styles, highlighting these artists’ ability to create fast-paced breakbeat rhythms mixed in an enveloping sampladelia.

SIDE B

Side B offers a deeper introspection with «Alamedas» by DJ Latinchat, a Peruvian producer and DJ based in Berlin, whose productions combine Caribbean and Latin American rhythms such as dancehall, reggaeton and cumbia with elements of UK Bass, techno and ambient.

«Orquidea Sexual» by Hanuna X Kimlyn and «Tansa» by Vitu Valera X Sean Plays Nice feature collaborations that highlight the sonic diversity of vinyl.

Vitu Valera, a versatile musician from Peru based in Barcelona, is known for his ability to combine traditional rhythms with Latin Club. His music is a fusion of the digital and the organic, as evidenced in his debut «MIGRX», which offers a unique audiovisual experience.

«Rompe Calzón» by Shushupe & Tribilin Sound Feat. Ares brings a bold and provocative touch,

while «Ganja» by Qechuaboi closes the journey with Latin beats processed in 8-bit, as if it were an 80’s video game.

The curator of this album, Qechuaboi, Peruvian producer, who today resides in Madrid, is one of the key exponents in the development of Tropical Bass in Latin America, where he contributed to develop the genre in Lima, Peru.A subculture that flourished between 2012 and 2017 in Lima, where these artists fused Afro-Peruvian rhythms, cumbia chicha and dubstep, combining unleashed dance and theatricality, demonstrating an unmatched talent and sonic personality.

«I define myself as a beatmaker, that’s my official definition. In a colloquial way, from Peru, I would say that I am a ‘chacotero del sonido’…. I make beats, more than songs, I also feel very close to hip hop», he told us a few months ago in our podcast.
